I've had problems with rng-tools (random number generator) and finally removed it. Nothing appears to depend on it. I've installed 11.3 twice, and the tools were installed both times, not by me consciously. I've spoken to others on the forum and they tell me that it hadn't been installed on their systems, and I'm curious now, what might have lead to the tools being added? I added some of the dev tools, but others added these too. An rpm query doesn't show anything, and nothing else was removed when I removed the tools. Does anyone else have rng on their system? How was it added? Jon -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Your system probably has hardware rng (do device /dev/hwrng exists?) and the package manager automatically selects it for installation. (as it should ;) ) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

rngd seems erratic and eats up my CPU. rng-tools fails to terminate it.

open a bug report, cc to me. (replace opensuse.org by novell.com in the address ;)) In the meanwhile you can disable it with chkconfig rng-tools off though we dont enable the service by default on install, there is a bug in the init script, contains "X-UnitedLinux-Default-Enabled: yes", so it getting enabled anyway. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
