Forget about "xhost +localhost". Use "sux" instead of "su" and you won't need the dangerous xhost. ("man xhost" will give you more info.)
Interesting - my system has xhost (as most do!) but no manpage for xhost.
Is there a version of "sudo" that avoids the need for "xhost +localhost"?
You should have no need for xhost +localhost when you use sudo. The command will run with the same $HOME as the original login and uses the same .Xauthority file ($DISPLAY also remains the same.)
