Hello. Greg, you are my absolute hero. It turns out that PGPNet created a virtual NIC with an IP address of... drum roll please... 0.0.0.0. I disabled that interface, and now I have my KDE desktop working very nicely from my W2K box. Thanks, Stuart.

By following the advice in some other e-mails, I finally got to where I was having the same problem as you. In my case it was caused because I had a poor network setup on my Win98 box. When I did a "ipconfig /all" on the windows box, it showed 2 different ethernet ports even though I only have one NIC. The first one had an IP of 0.0.0.0. I went to control panel, network and deleted the unused network and rebooted The XWin -query server command is now working for me. Maybe you also have something funny with your windows network config. Greg <snip>
