Hi Group, I am running es 9.3 on an Siemens-Fujitsu Amilo M 7400 with an Intel 82801 AC97 Chip. I have a problem with some routines of alsa-utilities: I can do ok: cat < /dev/dsp >/dev/audio you hear in the loudspeaker what I input at the Mike however when I apply cat < /dev/dsp > anyfileonmysystem and aplay -t raw anyfileonmystem or kampmann@ibk-node14:~/Tests/Aufnahmen> aplay -t raw /dev/dsp I get the messages aplay: main:533: audio open error: Permission denied kampmann@ibk-node14:~/Tests/Aufnahmen> ll /dev/audio crw------- 1 kampmann audio 14, 4 2005-03-19 20:36 /dev/audio kampmann@ibk-node14:~/Tests/Aufnahmen> id kampmann uid=1000(kampmann) gid=100(users) Gruppen=100(users),16(dialout),17(audio),33(video),1000(Astro) Any help appreciated - thanks Jörg -- ============ lat=52.35°N - lon=10.25°E ================================ Dr. Jörg Kampmann - IBK-Consult for Real-Time and Embedded Systems D-31228 Peine - Tel.:+49-177-276-3140 - Fax: +49-5171-13385 http://www.ibk-consult.de http://www.openbc.com/go/invuid/Joerg_Kampmann ===== QNX is the better Choice for Real-Time: http://www.qnx.com ====

I can do ok:
cat < /dev/dsp >/dev/audio
you hear in the loudspeaker what I input at the Mike
however when I apply
cat < /dev/dsp > anyfileonmysystem
and
aplay -t raw anyfileonmystem or kampmann@ibk-node14:~/Tests/Aufnahmen> aplay -t raw /dev/dsp
I get the messages
aplay: main:533: audio open error: Permission denied kampmann@ibk-node14:~/Tests/Aufnahmen> ll /dev/audio crw------- 1 kampmann audio 14, 4 2005-03-19 20:36 /dev/audio kampmann@ibk-node14:~/Tests/Aufnahmen> id kampmann uid=1000(kampmann) gid=100(users) Gruppen=100(users),16(dialout),17(audio),33(video),1000(Astro)
I just wanted to add a remark to my previous message: the problem is: how can I apply aplay or any of the programs (like kwaveview, jaaa) to /dev/audio and /dev/dsp without getting such error messages.
Any help appreciated - thanks Jörg
