Clamav.net And of course if you could be more specific about where this antivirus would running like samba, mail client or proxy, would be helpfull. regards, -- Arie Reynaldi Zanahar reymanx at gmail.com http://www.reynaldi.or.id

ClamAV with dazuko. ClamAV is the virus scanner. Dazuko is a daemon or kernel module that invokes the scan on access. FAM (File Alteration Monitoring) fits in there somewhere. There is a km_antivir package in SuSE 9.2 that contains source for Dazuko with the H+BEDV AntiVir virus scanner. Plus the FAM packages. HTH, Jeffrey

Why?
I started using it because courier-imap was filling up my mail log with I/O errors. I found out that it was compiled to work with fam (the explanation made sense). But every now and then fam just looses it and starts grinding away at my hard disc (which is an old slow one and needs to be treated gently) so badly that I cannot even use my desktop at all. I think I've posted about this problem before. I've been keeping an eye on it for almost a year now, and I still haven't found anything that triggers this. It's happened over three different versions of SUSE, and one debian box too. -- Kind regards Hans du Plooy SagacIT (Pty) Ltd hansdp at sagacit dot com

I am not using this, so I am not completely clear. IIRC, FAM kernel module provides the hooks for calling a program on file alteration, e.g., creation. FAM and km_antivir look like similar solutions for the same problem from different vendors. FAM was initially developed by SGI, km_antivir and Dazuko by H+BEDV. Using H+BEDV's AntiVir requires a license. The license is free for personal (non-commercial) use and requires yearly renewal. I don't know how much work it is to use it with ClamAV (free as in beer and speech). I reasonably sure this is in the ClamAV mailing list archives. Jeffrey
