Need to locate a driver for Olympus digital voice recorder
Hi, everyone. I have all sorts of links to Linux resources, but I don't seem to have one for help with drivers. If anyone can point me to the right place I'd sure appreciate it. I just purchased an Olympus VN-480PC digital voice recorder. It will transfer recorded files (.wav) to a Windows-equipped PC via USB. Unfortunately, though SuSE 9.3 instantly recognizes my Nikon digital camera, Samsung digital audio player, and memory card reader via USB, it does not recognize this digital voice recorder. I called Olympus tech support and actually spoke with a guy who uses Linux, but he says the device requires a driver and won't be recognized by the usual USB "plug and play" that SuSE typically does so well. He suggested that I ask around the Linux community to see if anyone knows of a driver for this digital recorder. So.... can anyone point me to a site where I might find such a driver? Many thanks! Gil

Please quote the respective output of lsusb -vv with the recorder attached. Ciao, Marcus

Please, as root, run the command lsusb -vv (or as user: cat /proc/bus/usb/devices ) And paste the output to a file / mail here. Ciao, Marcus

Sorry, sorry, replied too quickly. I know how to get what you want from the command line. Should I disconnect all other USB devices before getting the output for you? Thx Gil

OK, Marcus, here is the output. Prior to running the command I disconnected my USB card reader. Only the Logitech USB keyboard/mouse and the Olympus digital voice recorder were connected. Let me know if you need anything else. Thanks for your help. Two weeks ago I posted a request for help getting SuSE 9.3 to recognize an Olympus VN-480PC digital voice recorder. Marcus Meissner was able to confirm via output from the console that the unit does require a special driver before SuSE will recognize it. It's not simply plug-and-play USB. Can anyone point me to a driver resource where I might find what I need? Many thanks. Gil
