Hi to all, I have a problem with my screen. I use KDE as my GUI and the windows appear with a shadow in all the screen. What i mean by a shadow is like several lines (more like shadows) which appear in the horizontal direction and appear in the windows edges. There are also other shadows which appear in each line of text that i am writing. When i move the window the shadows follow it . Perhaps this is a X server problem, or it might be a hardware problem (monitor or graphics card). I have plugged the monitor in another computer and the shadows did not appeared, so i presume this is not a monitor problem. I have run the X wizard to reconfigure the X but it remained the same. Is this a graphics card problem ? I do i trace the problem ? Thanks to all in advance. P.S: sorry about my english

Control Panel > Appearance & Themes > Window Decorations There's a checkbox at the bottom named "Draw a drop shadow under windows". Make sure this is turned off. It's interesting eye candy, but not developed well enough for regular use yet. This feature is turned off. I think this is not a look configuration but it might be horizontal frequency syncronization. But unfortunately the monitor is weel configured in the X server. More ideas ? :-) Joe Sullivan wrote:

Sounds like an unshielded vga cable. Are you using the one that came with it? Have you added other electronic equipment in close proximity to the monitor? Triple shielded vga extension cables are available at cablesnmor.com for about $10US. Replacing the cable cured my problems with shadowy text. But connecting the same monitor with the same cable in another computer all goes well ..... Ed Harrison wrote:

Some video drivers in XFree86 may be problematic. Check e.g. http://www.xfree86.org/4.3.0/RELNOTES3.html. You may try to decrease the frequency, resolution, ... and write a bug report. But the easiest way is to buy a graphics adapter which is known to work OK. (Well, this is not applicable to notebooks.) -- A.M.
