[SuSE Linux] How to patch SuSE 5.2 kernel?
I was going to upgrade my kernel from the SuSE 5.2 supplied 2.0.33 to 2.0.34 and found that applying the normal 2.0.34 source patch trashes my kernel source base and I am forced to reinstall the kernel source. In looking at what I installed in YaST it looks like I installed some sort of SuSE modified kernel source which includes additional drivers. If I want to upgrade my kernel do I have to download a new 2.0.35 kernel source set from the SuSE FTP site? I tried the 2.0.34 patch from the SuSE FTP site and "patch" failed and left my 2.0.33 source code in some inconsistant state and so I had yet another kernel source install from the distribution CDROM. No need to download the complete kernel source. Just delete the package `lx_suse' (SuSE kernel) and install `linclude' and `linux' (they contain the official kernel source). Then apply the patch again. Ciao, Stefan - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e

After installing the standard 2.0.33 kernel source from the SuSE 5.2 CDROM, I found that there wasn't any Epic 100 driver which I need for my SMC EtherPower II network card. I ended up downloading the whole SuSE 2.0.35 kernel source and installing that intead. First Impressions: The newer aic7xxx driver in the 2.0.35 kernel initializes my AHA2940UW card much quicker making the whole bootup process noticeably faster. The epic100 driver is part of the official original 2.0.35

Hmm, I think the default for the reset delay has changed. - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e

I and others had alot of problems with TX timeouts when running the card in 100BaseTX mode. I was in touch with the driver's developer directly. After sending log files with the relavent error messages and other debug information, the problems were ironed out in subsequent releases of the driver. I'm running two SuSE 5.2 systems both of which are using EtherPower II cards. Anyone wanting to use the SMC EtherPower II card should be using version 1.03 of the Epic 100 driver.
