You don't appear to have got an IP address from the DHCP server. Are there any DHCP-related messages in any of the /var/log/* files? Does your DHCP server log an IP address request? Have you set the relevant variable in /etc/rc.config or /etc/rc.config.d/* (if there is one) to get the DHCP client to start? (stupid question) Have you installed the DHCP client package? -- David Smith Work Email: Dave.Smith@st.com STMicroelectronics Home Email: David.Smith@ds-electronics.co.uk Bristol, England

No

I'll have to check that out

I set up the NIC with YAST, it was made active and set to use dhcp on boot, and I do get a message on boot that says "dhcpcd is attempting to configure IP information for eth0" then confirms > DONE also ps -aux does list dhcpcd as a running process?
(stupid question) Have you installed the DHCP client package?
yes, see above I'll keep trying.......Jeff __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Try FREE Yahoo! Mail - the world's greatest free email! http://mail.yahoo.com/

route -n gave no output other then the column headers :-( If I use an IP from the routers DHCP pool and configure the IP and DNS manually will that break NAT? You are having DHCP client problems. I would recommend uninstalling dhcpcd and install the ISC dhclient. That has worked great for me for years. Note, after you uninstall dhcpcd, it does not uninstall /etc/rc.config.d/dhcpcd.rc.config. Remove this file manually, as it duplicates some of the same variables as dhclient.rc.config. -- Joe & Sesil Morris New Tribes Mission Email Address: Joe_Morris@ntm.org Web Address: www.mydestiny.net/~joe_morris Registered Linux user 231871

Hi, thanks for the reply! I manually configured the IP and DNS, everything is working fine now. I will keep your suggestion in mind if DHCP becomes a necessity and I have more time to mess with dhcpcd Jeff --- "Joe & Sesil Morris (NTM)" <Joe_Morris@ntm.org> wrote:

Hi to all! I have a little problem with my ftp server. You see, I have 2 ips namely 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.2.1. In the past, I have not encountered any problem connecting to this local ftp server. Now, if any client in net 192.168.2.0 connects to my ftp server, if says connection close: 421 Service not available. But if a client connecting is in net 192.168.1.0, it works ok. Im confused. Do i have a routing or DNS problem? Can any one help me? Thanks Eugene

both IP's are in different subnets. So you need at least one router between this two computers. Or you change it from 2.1 to 1.2, which would make more sense.

Please also send some more information, which server you are using, simple description of the network, how they are connected etc... cu stonki -- deutsche ProFTPD Dokumentation: http://www.stonki.de EFNET: #proftpd
