Is it possible to connect a Sun keyboard/mouse that comes with a Sun Sparc 5 to PC hardware and use it with e.g. SuSE? I assume (hope) that the Sun keyboard/mouse must (can) be connected via a converter. -- Richard Bos Without a home the journey is endless

Yes, there are a few companies that sell these but they are pretty expensive, e.g. http://makeashorterlink.com/?W28235424 . -- -ckm

Thanks (especially for the swift reply), they are expensive indeed. -- Richard Bos Without a home the journey is endless

And they are not very satisfactory. The non-standard keys (alt, cursor keys, etc.) probably won't work. Okay if you are just doing mouse and typewriter key type stuff. Going the other way (PC keyboard on Sun), I found it much better to just use a Linux box as a X terminal. Jeffrey

The guy that looks for such possibility, wants it to prevent rsi. If he works on a sun kb/mouse combo its all ok. Working on an pc kb/mouse combo gives him problems. In this case he better uses the sun as an X terminal :) -- Richard Bos Without a home the journey is endless

I was trying to use a MS Natural Keyboard to prevent RSI ;) Jeffrey

There are commercial adapters, but very pricey. You know that the only reason to convert I can conceive is that you like the ergonomics, or image of the Sun hardware, mice and keyboards are practically free for PCs. You can buy a sparc 5 cheap on e-BAY, or use yours as a linux X-terminal, getting the same environment but a nostalgic look. P.S. The Mandrake sparc distribution is much better than SuSEs. Neither are cutting edge, but SuSE is very slow on vintage hardware. On Tuesday 08 April 2003 15:51, Richard Bos wrote:
