(currently 2.2.13)... anyone got a Voodoo3 running quake 3 on 6.3 w/ XFree4??? x is running fine, but q3 now broken since upgrade to x4.0 TIA, don -- proud Linux user since kernel 1.1.54 icq#42235604 -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
Are you getting some kind of 'libMesaGL.so.*****' something error? If so, you may have to set up a link to the new libGL. file. I can't remember what the actual name of the file is, but it's all in the documentation. Do a little searching... It's buried in there somewhere. Other than that, no, the 2.2.13 kernel's fine with it. Oh, and if it's just running slower than expected, you just have to load the DRI kernel module, and enable DRI. That's all in the doc's too. I can't remember all the details, I'm just giving you direction... Something to search the docs for. They're kinda ambiguous unless you read almost every file available, or you know what to look for. hey, thanks for the clues...........i don't remember seeing ANY errors, just running real slow, q3 opens in a window even if i set the MESA_GLX_FX=f once t opens x is frozen with cpu maxed out, i can't even get to another vt to see if the modules loaded.......i did manually load the 3dfx module before running q3, but didn't help.......is this the DRI module you speak of? i checked my xconfig file and it says it is to load the dri module and use the tdfx server...... what documentation are you speaking of? there was nothing other than Release notes and a small README in the X directory at SuSE ftp site....and what i've been able to find at the linux quake site or the id site doesn't mention X4 or the new drivers......... thanks for the help, i will be able to play with it some more this evening, maybe get a handle on what is actually going on...... thanks again, don On Wed, 26 Apr 2000, defiance wrote:

You've got to start it with: quake3 +set r_glDriver /usr/X11R6/lib/libGL.so Have you checked that the DRI module is loaded? "lsmod" should show a "tdfx" module loaded (IIRC, might be called something else). I've only just got SuSe 6.4 today - migrated from Mandrake only have the evaluation disk - will get X 4.0 dloaded tonight. -WBD ----- Original Message ----- From: "Donald G. q3 starts in a window, even if i set the MESA_GLX_FX=f, then x almost freezes up with cpu usage going through the roof, can't switch to another vt to run lsmod, i tried inserting the 3dfx module by hand prior to running q3, but it didn't help........i will try the command you suggest this evening when i get home, thanks, don On Thu, 27 Apr 2000, Warren Doney wrote:

only have the evaluation disk - will get X 4.0 dloaded tonight.
Why download? There's a minimal version of XFree86 4.0 on your 6.4 CDs. AFAIR, it's on the second CD in the directory unsorted. It also comes with SaX2, currently the *only* GUI configuration tool for XFree86 4.0. As I said - only have the *evaluation* disk (burnt from iso) - not box set. 4.0 install went o.k., had to Ctrl+Alt+"+" to see screen in SaX2, & "rpm -e" some packages not specified in "README" susewm* was the important one, had to "--force" it back in.... (this might be because I ftp'd the directory in W98). Works great! - well done SuSE :-) -WBD -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
