[opensuse] Automatic online update misses patches
I've noticed something weird happening on my 10.2 workstations: even though automatic updates are enabled, the number of patches that the Online Update section of yast2 shows keeps growing. I've issued the command # rug up -y -t patch manually, but rug insist that there is nothing to be installed (--skip-interactive does not affect the result). I've tried to remove rug from the system, but to no avail (well, almost): the update command is now # zypper up -y -t patch, and I succeeded in installing one patch, but still about two dozen others are sitting around without being installed. Any ideas? Thanks, A. -- Ansgar Esztermann Researcher & Sysadmin http://www.mpibpc.mpg.de/groups/grubmueller/start/people/aeszter/index.shtml

Have you removed rug et family, ie, zen, etc...? Do so: rczmd stop rpm -e zmd libzypp-zmd-backend sqlite-zmd rug zen-updater http://opensuse-community.org/Repositories/10.2#Disable_ZMD - -- Cheers, Carlos E. This has nothing to do with the presence of patches, especially not in zypper. What patch does it install and what does it still show? More information is always helpful. As to what patch it did install, I do not think I can still dig up that name. (Should have written it down earlier...) As to what is still shown, here is a partial list: ----------------------------------------------------------------------- MozillaThunderbird: Security update to fix various problems RealPlayer update to version 10.0.9 aaa_base: Fix for Firefox and konqueror to download aspx pages instead acroread: fix error on acroread startup cpio: fix function safer_name_suffix() emacs: Update to fix bug in parsing GIF images gd security update gv: Additional fix for previous security update vim: This update of Vim addresses a format-string bug in "helptags" (C ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Right now, I've noticed something: one of the patches shown in yast is pre-selected for installation -- the others aren't. When I run zypper, that patch is installed. So I guess I'll have to ask a different question: why is it that some patches are selected for installation while others are not?
