connect to / disconnect from the net
Hello: How could I connect to and disconnect from the LAN an easy way (one click)? Similarly to clicking the kinternet icon in system tray when the connection is through ADSL or modem. I have suse 10.0 OSS with kde 3.4 and the computer is connected to the net through a LAN. Hi Istvan. I think you'll have to describe what you believe "dis/connect to the LAN" really means to you. Connecting to the LAN could mean one of these: - physically plugging in the RJ45 plug - ifconfig <device> up - running dhcpcd - enabling a hole in the firewall using iptables What is it really you want to achieve by e.g. "disconnecting" from the LAN? /Per Jessen, Zürich

Sorry for not being clear. Either "device down" or block all port in the firewall. The result is important, ie it would seem for the applications that the system would not connected to the net. Also everything is blocked from outside. I would like to have a similar result to clicking kinternet button when ths connection is through ADSL. Without having checked this, "ifconfig <interface> up/down" will do what you ask.

There is undoubtedly a way of wrapping the ifconfig commands in some KDE stuff. Sorry, can't help much more - I think it's a pretty unusual request. /Per Jessen, Zürich
