I installed the latest version of apache after removing the one that came with SuSE 6.3 (2.2.13). I wanted to get rid of all the junk ( ;) ) that SuSE has added (in the config file), not to mention I want to start with the latest version of Apache. Everything works fine when I start in manually doing the following: cd /usr/local/apache/bin httpd I want this to start automagically when this machine is booted. Can someone educate me on how I can run this command in a startup script (and which one). /usr/local/apache/bin/httpd Thanks! Why don't you put it in /usr/sbin/httpd and then use etc/rc.config as it has already been done? -- Bob F EMail BobFi@SWBell.net A Truly Wise Man Never Plays Leapfrog With A Unicorn... -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
The usr/local/apache was the default path that apache compiled into... I would like to stick with the defaults of the package rather than "if it doesn't fit, force it" into an operating system. I assumed that it would not be that hard to do (run it at boot from its default location). Anyhoo, tried your suggestion by putting a link in the usr/sbin/ to the httpd binary and setting the rc.config to load http. Still nothing. I am not sure where I am going wrong. I had hoped that it would not be this difficult.
