[opensuse] Desperate Situation
My situation could not be worse. I managed to get control of Yast again and disabled ALL repositories. Then I uninstalled WINE and WINE-DEV. I uninstalled CrossOver totally (also the bottles). CrossOver 6.2.0 (latest version) worked with SuSE10.3 at the beginning. I started to have a lot of problems when I enabled the on-line automatic upgrades. Therefore I meant to reinstall WINE from SuSE10.3 DVD and then CrossOver starting from a clean configuration. When I reinstalled WINE I realized it must be downloaded from somewhere anyway because the DVD was not accessed. Then I reinstalled CrossOver 6.2.0 successfully. But the pain started when I tried to install any Windows application (see attached pictures). I tried CrossOver Installer and also tried to download its rpm file and installed it through rpm command. The result is the same! I also tried to install CrossOver 5.3.0 as it worked fine with SuSE9,3 ON THE SAME COMPUTER SYSTEM. But again it won't install ant Window application. For some reason CrossOver seems to be unable to hook up with WINE ???? I also rebooted and launched REPAIR SYSTEM. It loaded the kernel from the DVD. When I chose INSTALL/UPDATE it printed out "error occurred during installation" and presented me with 3 choices (CD-ROM, Network, HardDIsk). I picked CD-ROM (actually it's a DVD). It printed "error reading sector 1282. This DVD is broken". The same message was printed when I tried "Verify Installation". Then I selected Power-Off and rebooted from hard-disk. I think I can only reinstall SuSE10.3 but sisnce it cannot read the DVD (that I used for the previous installation) ... where can I reinstall from? I have been advised to get in contact with some Linux/SuSE expert in the area where I live at present, in the case I will loose control of the computer. I am in San Antonio Texas. Is there anyone living at close range that I can call on emergency ? Thank you so much, Maura Maura Edelweiss M.

Why do you think you need to install wine? I *do not* have wine installed and run CO 6.2.0 without any problems. It is not so simple. Now I can use Yast and have
excludd ALL repositories and on-line updates.
I have unistalled WINE and double-checked it is gone.
Then I have tried both the downloaded CrossOver 6.2.0
and also the trial version that worked about 3 months
ago.
They both install with no error.
But when I try to install any Windows application then
the error messages pop up (see pictures).
Since CrossOver uses its own Wine I have to infer tha
the problem is on the Crossweaver side. It sounds like
XOver cannot communicate with its own wine
I do hope to hear from the Crossweaver...
Maybe they changed something ...
Thank you,
Maura

It looks like your GL drivers are not correctly setup anymore, so CrossOver Wine is crashing in the middle of its operations. Ciao, Marcus -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Get used to use "su -", not "su". But Marcus is right, you have no GLX. The cause is clear: your configuration file is bad: Section "Module" Load "dbe" Load "extmod" EndSection It should load glx, too. For instance, I have: Section "Module" Load "dbe" Load "type1" Load "freetype" Load "extmod" Load "glx" EndSection Then, you have five mouses defined, on the same port, and several monitors. You haven't configured your X server. You are using a default config: # generic XFree86 4.x configuration file No wonder it doesn't work. So, that would be your first step. Make a backup of that file, close the X, (ctrl-alt-f1, log in as root, issue "init 3"), run "sax --reinit". When config is ok, save. Try with "startx". If ok, exit, and issue "init 5" to restart the X server, and ctrl-alt-f7 to enter. - -- Cheers, Carlos E. I did NOT install SuSE 10.3 as well as CrossOver 6.2.0
yesterday, NOT even a week ago.
I replaced SuSE9.3 on Oct.17 2007 and got CrossOver
6.2.0 trail version before then.
Actually I installed SuSE 10.2 first. It was
unacceptably buggy so, as suggested, I replaces 10.2
with 10.3 and bought the updated CrossOver 6.2.0
licence. In November 2007 I installed R and then JDR
(R GUI) on SuSE10.3. I have been able to use CrossOver
and R and even JGR until I opened my door to on-line
automatic updates. That's when I started to experience
a lot of troubles.

Maura

Why are you installing WINE? CrossOver Office provides it's own inbuilt customization of WINE. That said, you can run CrossOver Office, WINE and Cedega all on the same machine.
