Speaking of dualhead, how did you get that to work? I have the 6800 GT. But I cant seem to get it to see both monitors properly. Any Suggestions?
If you go to the Nvidia web site and search for dual head there are 2 documents, one for working in Cinerama mode where you have one large desktop, in this mode 3D acceleration is not possible. The second is classic, where each screen is as good as a separate session windows can't dragged across from one monitor to the other but 3D acceleration does work. This is the mode I use, If you are interrested I can send you my XF86Config file, unfortunately sax2 can't handle this in 9.2 you have to hack it manually but the help on the nvidia site is very good. whoa!!!!! Twinview, (without xinerama) allows you to use both monitors (heads) for the same desktop (like xinerama) except that you have FULL OpenGL hardware acceleration across both monitors (providing it is a single "dual-headed" nvidia card) The relevent information is in the Readme file also for the driver install. If you have the driver installed from YOU, then you simple need to edit the XF86Config file for "Twinview" like this Section "Device" BoardName "GeForce FX 5800" Driver "nvidia" Identifier "Device[0]" Option "TwinView" #Screen 0 Option "SecondMonitorHorizSync" "30-94" Option "SecondMonitorVertRefresh" "50-160" Option "MetaModes" "1024x768, 1024x768" Option "Rotate" "off" VendorName "NVidia" EndSection If you use the same monitors (recommended) then you don't need to add another monitor section either, you just put the second monitors (copy from the monitor section of the one that you have working) hsync and vsync and specify the metamodes viola! UT2004 will run across both monitors without problem! On Wednesday 16 March 2005 04:19 pm, David Bottrill wrote:

I haven't read the nVidia docs, but I know you can have 3D acceleration with TwinView. nVidia does it all their own way with what they call TwinView. To set up TwinView with your card: - log out of KDE/GNOME, i.e. to the login - switch to a text mode console, e.g. ALT-F1 - log in as root - issue 'init 3' to shut down X11 - call sax2 -m 0=nvidia -b /usr/X11R6/lib/sax/profile/NVidia_Twinview AFAIK, this requires identical monitors/displays attached to the card. Works nice here :) All set up by sax2. My new 17" LCD came yesterday. I did manually check the monitors for their sync-values though.
AFAIK, this requires identical monitors/displays attached to the card.
The "only" thing they need is to support the same vsync. I got one 19" CRT and a 17" LCD in use here. So the highest common sync is used. With my two 19" CRT's I got 85Hz, and with the flatscreen and crt I'm "only" getting 75Hz.

Excellent little piece of advice ...... (the same for Leif's little input for those that needs that) Now a follow up. As said ..... it helps getting closer to exploit the full benefits of having a dualhead setup for sure. Currently I have 2 times (1024x768) but wouldn't it be neat to get the full deal on the vertical too !! ;-) I have an Asus V9520VS (FX5200) and it's able to do 2048 x 1536 So here's my question .... Would it be possible to use Brad's advice/tip and say put my "numbers" in so that I get 2 times (1024x1200) that would take full advantage of the abilities that the graphicscard actually provide and the limits of the monitors (2 times 1600x1200);-) Is this just a a deathwhish or an excellent idea !? :D TIA Johan PS: I have 2 identical 19" Medion Monitors that can spin 1600x1200
AFAIK, this requires identical monitors/displays attached to the card.
