Hi, I am running Linux with a reasonable HD so I wonder if it is possible to put the contents of the DVD into a folder on the HD so I can install & uninstall at my whim without putting the CD/DVD in? Any ideas? James James C. If using the DVD there is only one of these files.

Hi All, new to list :O) Yes James you can do this, just make a directory somewhere and copy the contents of the disk. I've done this myself with the CDs (hint: seems to work best if you copy CDs in reverse order; because then you get the package info from disk 1 which contains full descriptions). When using Yast you can tell it to use a directory on your hard drive as it's installation medium, and that's it. If you're running SuSE on a second machine, you can also set up an ftp server on the first machine, and configure the second to access the disk contents that way too. Cheers, Rob
Additionally, at our Linux installfests, we have set up a system and used NFS to export the directories. On 24 Jul 2002 at 17:47, Robin Stevens wrote:
