Is there a list of sources/repos that can be added to YaST for 9.3? There are a number of packages I'd like to add/update, so putting the repos in YaST seems like the easiest way. I've tried to download .rpm files and then choose "Install with YaST" but the DVD versions keep getting installed instead (gaim is a good example here). I thought someone had earlier posted a site (possibly Novell's) listing these repos, but of course now I can't find it. Thanks.

http://www.novell.com/products/linuxprofessional/downloads/ftp/int_mirrors.h... The directory you put as a source in YaST must contain YaST-readable files like "content" and "directory.yast". for example, to update your KDE to version 3.4 if you use the suse.inode.at FTP server enter this directory: /pub/i386/supplementary/KDE/update_for_9.1/yast-source Use Konqueror to browse the ftp and find the directories you want to download packages from. You can add as many FTP directories/servers as you want in YaST. You can also add local directories. Use the Up and Down buttons to change the order of the sources. The first is the most preferred. Use the Enable/Disable button to enable or disable a source. Save your changes. (note: if you had added a ftp dir a long time ago you need to refresh it). You can use Search if you want specific packages or Package Groups and then ZZZ_All to see them all. Find the Avail.Version column and click on it. Items with the blue colour can be upgraded. Click the "Auto-check for dependencies" button and then decide which packages you want to update. If you want to update everything right-click the list and choose All In This list -> Upgrade if newer version is available. If you want specific packages right-click on them. The upgrade may not be successful in all cases and the "b" version of KDE3.4 that I downloaded has various bugs. If YaST needs packages from your SuSE9.1 CDs, just ensure the CD is in the Install Sources and insert the CD in the drive or copy it to the HDD. -- NSK http://portal.wikinerds.org

Thanks. I have SUSE 9.3 installed and I'm looking for repos like those found with 'Apt for RPM' I used apt with previous versions of SUSE, but it's not currently available for 9.3. My gaim package from 9.3 is currently at version 1.1.4 and Firefox is at 1.0.1. I'd like to update these to the latest versions and I'm having trouble getting RPMs from pbone and other sites to install with YaST. YaST keeps insisting on installing from the 9.3 CD vs. the latest rpm I've downloaded.

Cool, maybe I'm just missing it. What I see on http://linux01.gwdg.de/apt4rpm/ only shows up to 9.2. Where do I get the sources list and apt rpm's for 9.3? Thanks.

Thanks, I originally was using the sources.list.file and switched to sources.list.http and all is well.

Is this with "apt update" or "apt-get update"? If yes, you took the "sources" path fromm the examples file there, at ftp.gwdg.de, didn't you? Listed there is the local path though. Change: rpm file:/ftp/pub/linux/suse/apt xxxxxxxxxx to: rpm ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/suse/apt/ xxxxxxxxxxxxx in your sources file. HTH, Matt

Sorry Richard, I did word my question incomplete. Let me try again: If there are any real 9.3 rpms of Apt and of Synaptic (and not only the 9.2 ones from JMorris), please let me know. The SuSE 9.2 versions of apt and synaptics from JMorris do work fine, but I do feel a little uncomfortable, real 9.3 rpms of Apt and Synaptic will make me feel better. Apt does not care, though, and works fine, downloading all the nice fresh rpms listed at http://linux01.gwdg.de/apt4rpm/freshrpms.html#suse93 :) Thanks, Matt

If there are any real 9.3 rpms, please let me know. 9.3 is ordered from Amazon, but not yet shipped. I'll get apt & synaptic (and other) packages built for 9.3 after I get it and get it installed [and tweaked to satisfaction]. I am presently the x86_64 apt

The directory you put as a source in YaST must contain YaST-readable files like "content" and "directory.yast".
Also look for a media.1 directory. This can also be used as an ftp source as not all will have the directory.yast dir. -- Ken Schneider UNIX since 1989, linux since 1994, SuSE since 1998 "The day Microsoft makes something that doesn't suck is probably the day they start making vacuum cleaners." -Ernst Jan Plugge
