I have an icon in my panel that tells me that four software updates are waiting for me. Software Updater says that these are three Java 1.5.0 packages and another for RealPlayer v10. Clicking on the <Update> button causes the utility to tell me that it is "preparing software", and it keeps doing that for twenty minutes -- no less, after which is announces that it can't download rhe RealPlayer package from ftp://mirrors.netbg.com/...... If I uncheck the RealPlayer package, another twenty-minute wait gets me the further information that one of the Java packages can't be updated either. I am assuming that the reason for this is that it is not looking in the right place. In "Services" page of the utility's configuration notebook, the only remote source is ftp://mirrors.netbg.com/opensuse/distributions/o (Type: ZYPP and Active). There is a way to add many other services, but I do not know which types to add or from what servers. Unsurprisingly, Software Updater is not equiped with a Help facility. Where can I find such information? -- Stan Goodman Qiryat Tiv'on Israel The idea that Bill Gates has appeared like a knight in shining armor to lead all customers out of a mire of technological chaos neatly ignores the fact that it was he, who by peddling second-rate technology, led them into it in the first place. -- Douglas Adams (author of "A Hitchhiker's Guide to the Universe") -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

If it is not copy and paste error than link: ftp://mirrors.netbg.com/opensuse/distributions/o is not valid. It is not 'distributions' and even with 'distribution' it leads nowhere. This is for installation of opensource (oss) and non-opensource (non-oss) software: ftp://mirrors.netbg.com/opensuse/distribution/10.3/repo/oss ftp://mirrors.netbg.com/opensuse/distribution/10.3/repo/non-oss This is for updates, ie.security and critical functionality patches: ftp://mirrors.netbg.com/opensuse/update/10.3 and it the only one used by updater applet. To add them you can run in console as root user: zypper ar ftp://mirrors.netbg.com/opensuse/distribution/10.3/repo/oss oss zypper ar ftp://mirrors.netbg.com/opensuse/distribution/10.3/repo/non-oss non-oss zypper ar ftp://mirrors.netbg.com/opensuse/update/10.3 update -- Regards, Rajko. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

My clumsiness: if I had stretched the window horizonally, I would have seen instead: ftp://mirrors.netbg.com/opensuse/distribution/10.2/repo/non-oss/suse (note the additional subdirectory at the end).

In installing the above (with the correct version number, of course, I found that "ar" is not a valid command. From the choice offered me, I chose instead "sa" (add service). Many thanks. --

I wasn't sure what openSUSE version you are using. The 'sa' command is used with zypper delivered with openSUSE 10.2, but it will work in 10.3. The 'ar' or 'addrepo' is new name, for that function, listed with 'zypper --help' (zypper 0.8.25 openSUSE 10.3). BTW, welcome to openSUSE. -- Regards, Rajko. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
