Re: [SLE] Alternative to Amazon.com for Oreilly books
Techstore.com (http://www.techstore.com/) has a nice collection of Oreilly books at much cheaper prices (upto 40% less). This should be a nice alternative to Amazon.com, given the ban its facing.

Amazon has patented the use of cookies to create shopping cart applications. Ridiculous? yes it is. So they face a ban. Ban imposed by whom? It's the first I've heard of it as well (mind you, I haven't been reading the news for the past week). I didn't think anyone had the power to enforce a ban like that? And yes, I think this is utterly ridiculous too. "Ban" is perhaps the wrong word. It's more along the lines of a boycott. Something along the lines of, "anyone who thinks the patent was erroneously granted and/or improperly defended should make their purchases elsewhere". -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/

OK, seems reasonable. I certainly won't be buying anything from them until this is sorted out then... This reminds me of various people that have tried to patent 'Linux' in various places :( Chris -- __ _ -o)/ / (_)__ __ ____ __ Chris Reeves /\\ /__/ / _ \/ // /\ \/ / ICQ# 22219005 _\_v __/_/_//_/\_,_/ /_/\_\ -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
I've found out about it a while back already, when I found a nice link to this site: http://www.noamazon.com/ explains about it, and gives alternatives. :) Jan -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/

I hadn't heard it yet either. But wouldn't it be a boycott, not a ban? Greg -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/

Amazon is always getting banned or boycotted by some group, (I don't know if this is what the above author was referering to, but it is one ban (or boycott) facing Amazon.com). Amazon (in a nutshell) tries to patent and license the "single mouse click" http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=99/12/02/0915226&mode=nested RMS (Creater of the GPL http://www.gnu.org ) calls for a boycott. http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=99/12/13/2353214&mode=nested It picks up some more followers of the ban http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=99/12/20/1138251&mode=nested
