I have tried both eternal and kernel PCMCIA.... I have a Lucent Technologies Orinoco Silver (11Mbit) card which works great as far as connecting to the net goes. However, I cannot get iwconfig to report the link quality, signal level or noise level. Here is the ouput of iwconfig: eth0 IEEE 802.11-DS ESSID:"WaveLAN Network" Nickname:"sushi" Mode:Ad-Hoc Frequency:2.457GHz Cell: 00:02:2D:0A:DD:AB Bit Rate:11Mb/s Tx-Power=15 dBm Sensitivity:1/3 Retry limit:4 RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off Encryption key:off Power Management:off ---> Link Quality:0 Signal level:0 Noise level:0 Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0 Tx excessive retries:2 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0 I am running SuSE 8.1 with all YOU updates applied. The same card, when placed in my friend's Debian laptop works great and all these statistics are displayed correctly. On my machine: *** /proc/net/wireless exists and it's content is: Inter-| sta-| Quality | Discarded packets |Missed face | tus | link level noise| nwid crypt frag retry misc |beacon eth0: 0000 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 Any ideas? -- Marc Christensen http://www.mecworks.com/~marc/resume/ http://counter.li.org/cgi-bin/runscript/display-person.cgi?user=9502
