RE: [opensuse] 3G Cards And Vodaphone South Africa
Well I checked with the ISP helpdesk last night all the settings seems to be correct it connects then get the Compression Control Protocol error and hangs up. Busy researching on the net now maybe I can find a answer. My ISP informed me last night that they do NOT support linux at all. SO I am out on my own here. You could use Windows to figure out what settings (e.g. dialed number, etc) you should use in wvdial.conf On Wednesday 11 June 2008 11:15:31 you wrote:
Hi Bogdan
The modem responds. I can send a AT command. It reports ok. I can enter my sim card pin number too and check signal strength. Seems to be a problem with the ISP settings.
Thanks for the reply Neil

First, try to connect to your modem using minicom and see if it responds (e.g use 'AT' and you should receive an OK). Use 'wvdial' to connect your modem to your ISP. You need to configure /etc/wvdial.conf. Personally, I prefer to use Yast to configure my modem.

Hi People
Maybe some of you can help me here. I got a e220 Huawei Modem 2 days
ago
and would like to use it. My first problem was that when I plugged it into the computer it picked it up as a CD ROM. Basically Vodafone packages the drivers as a sort of Autoplay function for the windoze people.
I installed a "device" rule which allowed me to see the Modem. I ran Kppp setup the modem and used the modem terminal to actually talk to
it.
I could successfully send my pin number and check signal strength. So far so good.... then I setup the account. When I connect with Kppp it connects then dies with an error stating Protocol-Reject for 'Compression Control Protocol' (0x80fd) received.
I phoned the helpdesk. Waited 15 minutes and was told that Vodafone
does
not support Linux. So armed with this I just went through the account settings and made sure that everything is fine. Well my account is
setup
correctly and my modem is responding. Anyone out there have any ideas?

Here in France SFR, which is really Vodafone, supplies the Asus eee running Linux with what looks like that 3G USB key, you might be able to see how it's configured. I can't get hold of one because the wife says no. DC -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Well I have tried everything. I still get the error mentioned and no one on the net seems to have an answer. Maybe it is time to change to another distro seems like the guys have better luck on Fedora/Ubuntu hell even my Mandriva live distro picked up the Modem. ----------------------------------------- Engen Petroleum Limited, disclaims liability for any loss, damage or expense however caused, arising from the sending, receipt, or use of this e-mail and on any reliance placed upon the information provided through this service and does not guarantee the completeness or accuracy of the information.
