[SLE] xfree86 4.0, various
Hey howz it goin?? I recently pulled out my ancient Diamond Stealth 2000 and threw in a Permedia2-based card. The Permedia2 card is supported by XFree86 3.3.4 (from the SuSE 6.2 distro) but not very well. I like to be @ 1280x1024x16 and in this mode things are slowwwwww. :/ However I don't want to gut 3.3.4 and throw in all of 4.0 only because 4.0 is "too new" and still somewhat experimental from what I know. Instead, I'd like to just upgrade the server binary and associated config programs. Any thoughts about this? Are there any issues that I should be aware of? One other minor issue: since I threw in the Permedia2 card the screen no longer blanks while in X. When at the text console it blanks after x minutes (this is a kernel thing isn't it?), but not while in X. Is there some sort of config parameter that control blank time in X? I am using the 3D_Labs Permedia2 card, and it is working fine. I would suggest you get the latest driver from the SuSE web site. Mine is xglint-3.3.6-0. If you think the problem may be your XF86Config file, email me, and I'll send you mine. (I don't want to tie up the list with long files). Try xset s blank; xset s <timeout in seconds> Ciao, Stefan -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
