1) Anyone know if I can run a java app without being in Xwindows? 2) Anyone using a touchscreen with Linux? If so, do I have to be in Xwindows? Thanks! Tom
AWT??? What type of touchscreen do you use...Elo, Microtouch, etc...? Was it a pain to setup? Thanks for the help. AWT???
Abstract Windowing Toolkit or something close to it, the standard Java way of making graphical programs. With Java you can also create so called Text mode applications. For a console application you don't need X.

I only could and did answer your first question. I know nothing about touchscreens, sorry.
Thanks for the help.

Regards, Cees.
Java applications do not have to use X (perhaps the majority of them don't) but if you want to run an application that has a graphical user interface you will need X (or some other environment such as QPE that supports graphical user interfaces). JDL Tom Nielsen wrote:
