I got my HP_LJ1100A to work via the Samba, a little ago, but the problem now is to setup my HP_DJ895Cxi that is connected to my USB port on the linux host, and is working there.
You know, that normally you do NOT connect the USB printer before the windows has started up. Then Windows recognizes it, but this doen't happens here.
I'm not quite sure how the USB in the vmware has to be set in the configuration editor.
The first point to note is that when using samba we do not make any changes in the vmware configuration editor, because Win/vmware will never get control of the printer port. Linux keeps control of the port and Win/vmware sends a file to linux, by using samba, which linux prints. I think that your HP_LJ1100A is set up by way of the [lp2] entry in your samba config. If I have understood the way your system should be configured, you will have that printer set up as a printer under Windows, and you will have loaded the appropriate driver under Windows. In your Windows printer configuration there should, therefore, be an HP_LJ1100A, and if you click on Properties/Details you will see something like \\ERIKSAMBA\lp2. If all of the above is correct then we just need to create an appropriate entry in your smb.conf for the HP_DJ895Cxi and install the Windows driver. The best way for me to work out how to edit the smb.conf is for you to send me (or post here), your /etc/printcap. Will you do that next please - or else explain any errors I have made above?
