[S.u.S.E. Linux] diald
hi all, my present internet connection works fine, however I would like to get my diad functioning properly. Everytime I activate it; I fail to make a proper connection to the internet. What needs to be modified between using ppp-up generic and switching over to diald? thanks all, :) geo SuSe 5.2 - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e
I just setup diald so one of my SuSE boxes could act as a gateway/firewall for my home network. The first thing I did was copy the diald.defs and diald.conf example files over to /etc. Those two files are supplied in the diald doc on the SuSE CDROM. I believe the files reside somewhere in /usr/doc/packages/diald/examples I think it was. After that, I used the diald-howto document from the Linux documentation project as well. Most of the PPP setup as far as the device, connection speed and all the other stuff that used to be fed to pppd goes into the diald.conf file since it will be invoking pppd. I had a shell script that I used to use to do my modem dialing invoking pppd directly and using chat for doing the login. I had to modify it only to dial and connect to my ISP using chat. There are alot of rules and other stuff in the supplied diald.conf and diald.defs files in the package documentation that appear to be needed as I couldn't get diald to work properly without them. I can forward my diald.conf and connection script file if you're still having problems with diald. It work very well for my home network server. I know newer versions of pppd can do the same thing as diald but so far, all of the commercial distributions of Linux I've tried i.e. Slackware and SuSE seem to use earlier versions of pppd that don't support this functionality.
