Re: [OT] 2 questions.. fetchmsttfons.sh and where are the actual font files now?

Attempting, tho not doing well at it.. to install the MS fonts on a system because they are needed to accurately display some documents and the user just wants them. I seem to recall this happening in the past. And IIRC MS had moved the files to some other location. But right now that is all the input I can give you.
I've had this happen a few times after install. Usually I find that going back and selecting a different download server sorts the problem out. I don't know what is going on but I suspect that there is a simple time out at the server I chose in the first place. Heavy load perhaps or routine server maintenance? -- ============================================== I am only human, please forgive me if I make a mistake it is not deliberate. ============================================== Xmas may be over but, PLEASE DON'T drink and drive you'll make it to the next one that way. The only problem is the YOU 'patch' is a script that retrieves the compressed font package from an external source (currently SourceForge) then uncompresses and installs the fonts. If the servers are overloaded... or the files have been moved and the script hasn't been updated accordingly... there is no mechanism available to the user in YOU to "go back and select a different download server" :-/ I once actually used the failing (outdated) script as a guide to manually track down, retrieve and install these fonts. After going to all that trouble and, in the process, learning what files were needed where, etc., I realized it would have been a whole lot easier to just copy the files over from another system... which is why I offered the suggestion that I did. regards, Carl

Fair enough :-) I just stated what had worked for me... a couple of times :-) I don't know why it worked but it did.. -- ============================================== I am only human, please forgive me if I make a mistake it is not deliberate. ============================================== Xmas may be over but, PLEASE DON'T drink and drive you'll make it to the next one that way. My guess would be the first attempt(s) failed due to server loads at SourceForge and, by the time you'd started YOU again, changed servers and started the process over you were able to connect successfully and complete the installation. Carl

Most likely explanation. I have found some download sites for YOU to be appreciably faster too. Not just one offs either, I mean all the time. -- ============================================== I am only human, please forgive me if I make a mistake it is not deliberate. ============================================== Xmas may be over but, PLEASE DON'T drink and drive you'll make it to the next one that way.
