-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Well, I've waited a bit and currently it looks pretty good for me: between 100 and 210 kB/sec download rate. That's on an 4mbit (down) ADSL in Belgium and looks pretty acceptable to me, given that on my ISP's FTP mirrors, I get 480kB/sec. My upload doesn't get much higher than 10kB/sec though. 19 seeds, 61 peers... so there's definately potential for a lot more ;) As already discussed, please *do* try bittorrent first to see whether you achieve an acceptable download rate within 30min. If you're still creeping around at 5kB/sec, then switch to HTTP or FTP (and regularely check mirrors, especially ftp.uni-erlangen.de and ftp.kernel.org) - with wget and other download tools (curl, d4x, ...) you can stop downloading and continue with another mirror. To Lode: yep, ftp.belnet.be would definately be a killer. AFAICR it's sitting on the backbone between Frankfurt and Amsterdam, so it should be a decent alternative for people outside Belgium as well. BTW, another very fast mirror in Europe is ftp.heanet.ie but it already serves as a sourceforge.net mirror. happy torrenting cheers - -- -o) Pascal Bleser http://linux01.gwdg.de/~pbleser/ /\\ <pascal.bleser@skynet.be> <guru@unixtech.be> _\_v The more things change, the more they stay insane. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.0 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQFDF6iPr3NMWliFcXcRAiubAJ9+iz8cwuybrBqJq4DYpkEpXmocMQCdEud5 bZ9HBDobO3L6ZDla/S6d1N0= =Ahyq -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
I tried torrenting for beta 2,3 & now 4 ... most of the time im uploading & my download is sometimes max like 20kb per second ... most of the time on average like 10 .. so would take years. And the tracker disappeared 4 me. --- Pascal Bleser <pascal.bleser@skynet.be> wrote:

hello, try to limit your upload speed /2, your download speed will *10. just let the torrent open after it is finished. important note : bittorrent works (much) faster if you open a port in your firewall/router for the bt protocol. with azureus you can choose and test the port you choose. paul.

Oh God, yes please. Belnet would be a great adition. They already mirror one or two other distro's, so openSUSE would be a great addition. -- houghi http://www.opensuse.org/index.php/Making_a_DVD_from_CDs

One or two? Make that 20 :) Belnet is indeed a killer network. They host the Belgian internet exchange (BNIX), and are just a few hops away from most major European IXs. AFAIK they are also connected to Internet2. At present they mirror the following distros: SuSe, arch, aurora, aosity, centos, crux, damnsmallinux, debian, edulinux, fedora, fnux, foresight, frugalware, gentoo, gnoppix, knoppix, lineox, linuxfromskratch, mandrake, mepis, netwosix, pclinux, redhat, slackware, specifix (now rpath), startcom, ubuntu, whiteboxlinux, whoppix, YDL, yoper and a few more. In addition they host things like apache, binds, backports.org, linux kernel, openoffice, openbsd, freebsd, openssl, and lots of other cool stuff. They used to host a Sourceforge mirror, but apparently they dont anymore. It's one of the best mirror sites around. I used to be connected directly to Belnet (100 Mbit port to a switch with a Gbit uplink) .. Ah.. those were the days. I'll mail the maintainer again to see if he's open for an openSUSE mirror. Best, Lode
