Anyone have recommendations for good USB-powered speakers which run under SuSE 10.1? The built-in speakers on my Acer laptop don't quite cut it. Thanks in advance. -- Check the headers for your unsubscription address For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the archives at http://lists.suse.com Please read the FAQs: suse-linux-e-faq@suse.com

Why would you want them to be USB instead of a pair of simple plug into the sound jack amplified speakers..... (unless they don't put output jacks on laptops any more...) -- Check the headers for your unsubscription address For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the archives at http://lists.suse.com Please read the FAQs: suse-linux-e-faq@suse.com

Power is an issue. We have strict rules on what can be plugged into power outlets on our data centers. With several big projects underway, we are working all night during maintenance windows to bring up lots of new equipment. We can plug in our laptops, nothing else. -- Check the headers for your unsubscription address For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the archives at http://lists.suse.com Please read the FAQs: suse-linux-e-faq@suse.com

Some of the cheaper speaker units are battery powered, you could use ni-cads and recharge them elsewhere. If you have a place for speakers to live, why not connect to a small amplifier, like from Radio Shack, and real speakers, like bookshelf hi-fi speakers? Why not really enjoy the sound? I actually have floor-standing speakers, that I bought at a garage sale, and a Sansui amp that I got at a ham-radio flea-market. (Be _very_ careful of flea-market amplifiers--often there's one channel out. I know! The low power (5 W) Radio-Shack unit is a much safer bet.) --doug -- No virus found in this outgoing message. zLogitech makes a set of USB speakers which work under Linux and are powered through the USB bus.
