Hi Folks! Before I make the machine in which I have installed 6.4 my default machine, I only need to install my HP 7500 CDRW. As it's an IDE device, I wish to ask if it can be autodected and used without too much tampering with the system binaries. In case the default modules of 6.4 don't support IDE CDRW, I'd like to know if future releases e.g. 7.0 DeLuxe are planned to do so. Thank you in advance. -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/support/faq

It is not too difficult. I suggest that you read the CD Writing Hot-To. It talks about how to get IDE CDRWs working in great detail. Basically, just install it, and make sure it is detected. Then use an append line in your lilo.conf file to activate scsi emulation. Burning software needs to think the CDRW is a scsi device. You may need to recompile your kernel in order to add support for scsi emulation. Once that is done, then reboot, and fire up cdrecord to see if it can detect you CDRW.
