* Fred A. Miller (fm@cupserv.org) [20000426 21:25]:
And ? As long as nVidia refuses to release full specs for their cards (and
the lately released beta glx driver for XFree86 4.0 is mostly a binary only
driver), I'll wait for ATI or Matrox to come up with a competing product.
My personal favourite is Matrox, as the drivers (both framebuffer and X) are
the best you can get under Linux. Hopefully they'll come up with a
competitor soon. That aside, I guess I'll *never* spend $300 or more for a
video card. But then again I'm no hard core gamer either :-) I'll rather
spend my free time with something else ;-)

I like Matrox, but 3DFX has been working with the Linux community, playing nice. :) They'll have a new card out shortly called the Voodoo5 6000, if I remember correctly. I has 4 350Mhz processors and 128MB. For many of us, this would be over kill for sure, but at least it will be supported under Linux. My Voodoo3 3000 AGP is VERY quick and behaves well. Well, until recently I wouldn't have said so. But now that they're opening up glide, the picture does indeed change.

Yep, with the only drawback that the Voodoo3 cards aren't real AGP cards.
Besides that they're good cards.
This is only now becomming an issue as the glx drivers are able to use AGP
for transfering commands to the card. ATI and Matrox are supported so far
and at least my G400 works flawlessly.

What does this mean? what is a real AGP card?
