About every 2nd time I log in get 6 zombie KDE processes. Has anyone else seen this? Here is the output from "ps -efH". Try it on your system (when logged in to KDE) and see what you get! root 553 1 0 22:08 ? 00:00:00 /opt/kde/bin/kdm root 604 553 0 22:08 ? 00:00:16 /usr/X11R6/bin/X :0 vt07 -au root 663 553 0 22:08 ? 00:00:00 -:0 robert 719 663 0 22:08 ? 00:00:01 kwm robert 826 719 0 22:08 ? 00:00:00 [kde <defunct>] robert 827 719 0 22:08 ? 00:00:00 [kde <defunct>] robert 828 719 0 22:08 ? 00:00:00 [kde <defunct>] robert 829 719 0 22:08 ? 00:00:00 [kde <defunct>] robert 836 719 0 22:08 ? 00:00:00 [kde <defunct>] robert 837 719 0 22:08 ? 00:00:00 [kde <defunct>] (Plus a bunch of other stuff that looks OK.) The first couple weeks after intalling v6.4 I could shutdown from the button in the User/Password window. Now an extra window pops up when I try this with radio buttons for shutdown, retry ... and a text entry box for root password but it will not accept the root password. The only way I have found to shutdown is "shutdown -h now" from a root console. How did this happen and how do I fix it? Heres a snippet of what to look for. # # KDM_SHUTDOWN determines who will be able to shutdown the # system in kdm. Valid values are: "root", "all", "none", "local", # KDM_SHUTDOWN="all" having it set to 'all' does what you describe in the first instance, it sounds like you have it set to root in your second description, though why it's not accepting your root password I don't know. I do know that it WON'T display a password or even ****** as you type the password, which could lead you to believe it's not accepting it. Anyway, have a look and see what turns up. es> Ed Scott es> es> es> -- S.Toms - tomas@primenet.com - www.primenet.com/~tomas SuSE Linux v6.3+ - Kernel 2.2.14 -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
I know it is possible to do IPNat w/out having to force the client into passive mode- my AirPort at work does it for the Macs and PC's there. How do I make my suse box do IPNat so that passive ftp is not required? Netscape and IE choke on passive ftp. -mab -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
