This morning, LILO froze at the stage "LIL-". The SuSE manual says : "The descriptor table (in the map file) is corrupt. This can either be caused by a geometry mismatch or by moving /boot/boot.b without rein-stalling LILO." No change to the configuration was made recently. I started with a floppy (just the kernel, without lilo) and everything was ok. I reinstalled lilo with the same lilo.conf with the same result. I made a "e2fsck -c -f" and got no change. I created a boot disk with LILO. It works fine. Any idea please ? -- Christophe Foucher Supélec, campus de Rennes BP 28 35511 Cesson Sévigné Cedex France

I made a boot disk with boot.b and the kernel copied from the computer's HD, so they must be correct.
I've had a problem for a while with two of my 7.2 machines. Something tells me it resulted from the application of an update or from installing the latest kernel. I was able to boot from floppy, and I don't have time to investigate to determine what the problem is. IIRC, 7.2 never did find my W2k partition. I haven't booted into w2k since I did the 7.2 upgrade. I probably need to fdisk /mbr the first HD to get into windows. I'm using an AHA-2940 which may be one of the factors in my particular problem. I will say I have another 7.2 install that also won't boot correctly right. I am booting it from CD because both the HD and floppy boot configurations are hosed. The floppy just loops through a warm boot sequence. There seems to be a problem with the distribution/updates. If you find time, perhaps you could send a bug report to SuSE at feedback@suse.com . I simply don't have time to address these problems. Steven
