I have downloaded Opensuse 10.0 and I did a clean install, but to my surprise my sound does not work. I have a Via Vt8233 AC 97 controller. When I try to install my sound card with Yast, I get a message telling me that module snd-via82xx was not able to load. I have had some problem as this earlier, but after a reboot, I was able to fix it, but not this time. Gunnar

Hi Gunnar, check if another sound module is loaded and try to unload it, before you go to YaST. -- mdc

Hi Gunnar, "lsmod" Do it once before running alsaconf and afterwarts. Compare both lists. BTW: the service "alsa" is started in the runlevel editor ? -- mdc

And Yast will not configure my soundcard, only alsacconf, and I have to run alsaconf after a reboot. I have tried to delet /etc/modprobe.d/sound, but this does not help. Gunnar

alsasound is not working here, too. Turion64 notebook with ATI chips. I used Davids method of deleting /etc/modprobe.d/sound before letting YaST configure the sound device again when it was not working on my laptop after upgrading from 9.3 to 10.0. -- Guðlaugur Jóhannesson http://www.hi.is/~gudlaugu Phone: +354 849 8405
