[S.u.S.E. Linux] Multiple Windowmanagers - Always something to learn!

I had this notion that an X server was just that - a server, and that the windowmanager was a client (fvwm, afterstep etc). With this in mind, I thought that I may be able to start multiple windowmanagers - each on a separate VC - for one X server. Startx -- :1.0 (:2.0) etc starts separate windowmanagers on separate VC's, but it also starts up other X servers. Hence not the client/server relationship I had hoped for. Can anyone contrdict my findings and make a disappointed newbie into a happy hacker once again??
