Hello everyone, I plan to order a SUSE professional 9.3. There are three different packages. 9.3 Strong Encryption (128+ bit) 9.3 Update Strong Encryption (128+ bit) 9.3 Student Version Strong Encryption (128+ bit) My understanding of "update" version is an upgrade version based on previous suse installation. What is the difference between regular&student version? My may use suse on our desktop and server. Do I have to order professional and server edition separately? thanks for any input! carl

Nope.. The update is the pro version without all the extra books.
What is the difference between regular&student version?
None except price. I believe the student version is about the same as the upgrade version.

Nope.. Unless you want to pay for the "server" version. SUSE pro has just about everything you would need. And you can put it on more than one machine. The Pro. release and the Upgrade are the SAME, except there's 1 less manual, if I remember correctly. The DVD's and CDs ARE the same. Fred -- The only bug free software from MickySoft is still shrink-wrapped in their warehouse..."

I've used em a couple of times.. unless there has been a big change somewhere that might require some deeper reading; that seldom happens while in a "dot" release.
Biggest problem is finding a place to order them. Suse and co have nicely provided them on their websites this time. Even for pre-orders .. -- j That's why I wander & follow la vie dansante on the nightwind that takes me to where I want that's all I want .. la vie dansante.

You're 'supposed' to purchase the upgrade edition only if you've previously purchased a full edition of their software. I bought the 9.2 Pro upgrade since I previously purchased a full Pro version (8.1 and 8.2). I talked my employer into purchasing 9.2 Pro as well, though he purchased the full edition. The only difference was one less manual. The DVDs and CDs were the same. If you can live without the extra manual then the upgrade could work for you. Having said that, and realizing money is an issue for many people, I belive in supporting the development of OSS, especially Linux developers. Whenever I can, I purchase and/or donate funds for the software I use. Just MHO. Chris Shanahan

It's the right thing to do, IMHO. Fred -- The only bug free software from MickySoft is still shrink-wrapped in their warehouse..."
BTW Fred, I disagree with your signature. Just because the M$ software is still in the warehouse, doesn't mean it's bug free... the larva just haven't hatched yet. :) - Herman On Sunday 20 March 2005 11:36, Fred A. Miller wrote:

I believe it's just in the price.

I'm using 9.1 Pro on my desktops and my file server.

As far as I know, there's no difference in the software. The full package comes with two manuals. The update is missing the User manual. I don't know what other difference there may be in the Student version, other than perhaps price.
