I am trying to use a Netgear MA401 PCMCIA wireless card with my laptop running SUSE 8.0. Under 7.3 I used to choose orinoco_cs under the modules (thus not the PCMCIA option), and used to work fine. Now this option won't work in 8.0, but - according to some fellow Linux users - regular pcmcia incorporated should. Oh, well, when doing that here is what I get in the message log: init_module: prism2_cs.o: 0.1.13-devel1 Loaded init_module: dev_info is: prism2_cs prism2_cs: CardServices release does not match! p80211.o: 0.1.13-devel1 Unloaded Any ideas on how to fix this? This is an 8.0 patched with the latest from SUSE's site (via a regular Ethernet wired card I had to use :)) NOTE: I could probably try the http://www.hpl.hp.com/personal/Jean_Tourrilhes/Linux/ but I was hoping in something done by SUSE right! Thx, Stefan

Check the unofficial SuSE faq for ideas on how to work with the new PCMCIA/hotplug system in 8.0. You may have to set PCMCIA_SYSTEM=external in /etc/sysconfig/pcmcia among other changes. Best Regards, Keith -- LPIC-2, MCSE, N+ Got spam? Get spastic http://spastic.sourceforge.net

What unofficial SuSE FAQ would that be? I am also interested in this issue, since I have the same wireless NIC. Best regards, David List

http://susefaq.sourceforge.net/ Look under network related problems. Note that the information currently on the site relates to SuSE 8.0 and the new hotplug system only. Best Regards, Keith -- LPIC-2, MCSE, N+ Got spam? Get spastic http://spastic.sourceforge.net

Could you please tell a little bit more about how you got the MA401 working? I am actually sitting with one right now, trying to get it work with SuSE 7.3. It is very uplifting that you say it's possible, but I haven't succeeded in getting it working yet. Thanks in advance. Best regards, David List
As I said - I just followed the instructions from: http://www.hpl.hp.com/personal/Jean_Tourrilhes/Linux/ and - as far as SUSE goes, in YAST2 I unchecked the PCMCIA option, and listed orinoco_cs in the modules line (in the hardware options of the network basic setup). And, by the way - whatever change they made in SUSE 8.0 for the YAST2 hardware option sucks - I used to be able to edit the hardware options up until 7.3 - oh, well, in 8.0 that option dissapeared - now I have to delete the NICs, and recreate them, every time I want to change the drivers/modules ... :( On Sunday 05 May 2002 10:08, David List wrote:

Hi Stefan (and other mailinglist posters), this was your answer to my posting about how you got the MA401 up and running. I have had to spend my energies on other things lately, but now I have my MA401 working with orinoco_cs. However, I have looked over the explanations written by amongst others mr. Tourrilhes, and despite of this I have a very hard time working out how to get encryption working. It works under MS win2k. If you (or anybody else) have got the spare time, could you please give me some hints on how to grab the settings from win2k and put them into the Linux setup? Thanks in advance.
