Kernel security-upgrade question -- which patch to use?
Folks, I'm somewhat new to SuSE's kernel upgrade approach, so when I go the 9.0 patch website and saw several upgrade to the kernel ...2.4.21-192 to be precise ... do I only need to install the kernel source patch (I'm running a Pentium 4)? Or must I install all the patches I see currently listed under security upgrades? All the patches dated Feb 18 2004 seem to deal with the same problems, so that implies the different patches for different processors? Or they all address the same problem from different directions? I'm so confused... ;-) Best regards, Pete -- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peter N. Just run YOU (YaST Online Update) - this will download the current kernel for you, all compiled and ready to go. YOU is in the YaST2 Software section (run YaST from the SuSE menu or access it via the KDE Control Centre). If you use the Online Update system from YaST>Software then it will sort itself out for you - i.e. it will work out which package(s) you need, download them and install them all in one operation.
