[opensuse] updating on 11:3 is broken
If this is the wrong list for this, please let me know. I tried running an update today. Suddenly I have to 'configure an update repository' which involves registering. I've no problem with that, if the system worked, but it doesn't. I get as far as it launching a browser from the 'manual interaction required dialog', and I press 'continue', which launches a browser. I click 'continue' on that too. It closes, and I get a brief 'contacting server' progress dialog, then the 'manual interaction' dialog is modal again. From here there are three paths: 1. Continue the above loop ad infinitum. 2. Cancel, in which case I'm not configured, and can't update 3. cut and past the link in the 'manual interaction dialog for a manual registration. Option 3 doesn't seem to work either. Although the tab in firefox says 'registration completed', the page says I have to complete the registration process by clicking the 'continue' button. So I do, and nothing happens. I have two questions: 1. where do I go from here? 2. Did no-one learn from the version 10 mess that changing the updating system during the rush to get a new release out is a bad idea? Hi There is no registration system for openSUSE? But packman have been making changes, so I'm thinking it's probably related to that. http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-project/2011-02/msg00278.html http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-project/2011-03/msg00019.html http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-project/2011-03/msg00026.html

There is no error message: what I wrote is exactly what happens when I try to perform a Yast2 update. If there is no registration required, where does the code come from to launch a dialog, which then launches a browser? Do you think I'm hallucinating? T On 06/03/11 14:01, Marcus Meissner wrote:

Oh: I was having an issue with tumbleweed:raw: the repmond.xml file not being downloaded. Generally I just 'skip' when this happens, and everything (except updates from the skipped repository) works fine. In this case, not so much, but if I disable the repository all goes well. I'll paste some screen caps anyway, since this shouldn't be happening under any circumstances. They are: update_strangeness_1.png to update_strangeness_4.png, the latter three posted as replies to the first. Right, but we need actual links to images because there is no search on http://paste.opensuse.org/ , at least not from anonymous (public) interface. -- Regards, Rajko -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

What do you have in Yast 2 Repositories icon (Configured Software Repositories is what the window is titled)? If you have nothing there, you have to add repositories there before you can proceed. Your screen shots skip this step, and don't show us what you are doing to launch this whole process. Instead the screen shots pick up after you have already encountered the error message. -- _____________________________________ ---This space for rent--- -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I have a number of repositories set up, and have successfully updated on this installation for the past 2 months, both from the updater applet and from Yast2. To launch the whole process I click the 'Online Update' button in the Yast2 Control Center window. As I indicated in another branch of this thread, by disabling the 'tumbleweed:raw' repository this problem goes away, so for the moment I'll just do that (I'll be updating the whole distro next week anyway). However, clearly a problem with one repository should not produce such unhelpful and confusing output. While this is not a serious issue for me right now, the problem is repeatable on my system if I re-enable the troublesome repository. I'm more than willing to collect any information that would be helpful if someone wants to try and understand wtf happened. Just let me know. Hi Tony, According to <http://en.opensuse.org/Tumbleweed> Tumbleweed /= openSUSE 11.3 Tumbleweed is essentially a 'fork' of openSUSE 11.3 where packages maintenance has taken a new trajectory. It says "You can test the Tumbleweed repository and give a feedback, share experience and report issues to the openSUSE Factory mailing list. If direct access to the list fails, please subscribe using this link <opensuse-factory+subscribe@opensuse.org>. It would probably be more productive to report the issues you're experiencing there. hth, have fun & regards, Carl -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Report on factory list will find Tumbleweed repo maintainer. I know for sure he is not subscribed here. -- Regards, Rajko -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I had the same exact problem. I just gave up on 'updating' because it was so aggravating. Just another of those major oops's that got through with 11.3. <sigh> -- God and religion - one a figment of an timid psyche and overactive imagination, the other for the simple and weak-minded.
