Sorry to bring this up again as I know that there have been threads on this in the past but with no solution. I've tried all the tricks in the book to get the sound going with the via chipset which is recognised by yast. Nothing is muted. i've tried alsaconf and kmix and alsamixergui until I just can't anymore. Still no sound. anyone got a solution? Cheers, Steve.

well, I was able with Yast to get a test sound to come out. This is during the hardware configuration part. However, it seems that kde knows nothing about talking with the sound card. As a side note I recall from a Redhat EL4 discussion that there was a problem with kde 3.3 and the artsd sound driver on some systems.. However, I can't find the thread on redhat's site. They recommendated turning off the kde sound deamon to permit the kernel sound driver to function -- (or something like that) I sure hope someone figures this out soon -- I'm not enough of a linux/kde guru to do it. But I have a feeling it has something to do with kde.... (since I was able to get yast to play the test sound)
anyone got a solution?
Cheers, Steve.
