[opensuse] pim / kmail 1.10.0 (using kde 4.1.1) crashing on paste in message body
Yes, well, I'd rather not try and paste the subject line, which pretty much says it, in here. Major annoyance. What can be done? Wolfgang -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Where did you find 4.1.1? As far as I can see, OBS only contains 4.1.0, and from reading kde.org, 4.1.1 hasn't been released yet (it's been tagged, but not yet released), so I have to guess you're running your own build from svn. In this case, you have a choice between reporting the problem to the kde developers, or - if you're a developer - fixing it yourself Anders -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

In repositories I had added "openSUSE BuildService - KDE4:Factory:Desktop" and I install updates from there. "About Kontact" says Kmail Version 1.10.0 Using KDE 4.1.1 (KDE 4.1.0(4.1 >= 20080722)) "release 26.5" Yes, sic. I thought everyone did add the repo because initial kde4 sucked so much. Forgot all about it. I'll ask over on opensuse-factory. Thank you, Wolfgang -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

The Kmail standalone: The last version is release 40.4 and it doesn't crash on paste using mouse middle button, Ctrl+c and Ctrl+v, and context menu Copy and Paste. I used random parts of text with URL in it. The Kmail in Kontact has no problems with the same tests as above. Maybe some desktop effect have problem. I lost control over desktop few times, disabled few desktop effects, and it is OK now. I have to play a bit more to find out which effect is doing this. -- Regards, Rajko -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

So there are 2 different versions of kmail? Didn't know this. Where's 40.4?

Good to hear

Rajko, thanks for trying and the hint. I do have desktop effects enabled. But I don't see clipboard problems anywhere except in kmail. Hm ... Wolfgang -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Well, you are using something other than 11.0. Is it 10.3? Because the 4.1 packages for 11.0 still don't say 4.1.1, as far as I can see. I still think it is a problem with those particular packages, and you should report it on opensuse-kde to the people who build them. You should probably also go through your KDE packages, to make sure that all are at the same version level. Often with problems of this sort, the problem is that some packages didn't get updated in the installation source (note, it's not that you didn't install what was available, it's that not everything was available) Anders -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

;) 11.0 is what I installed. sysinfo:/ says System openSUSE 11.0 (i586) KDE: 4.1.1 (KDE 4.1.0 (4.1 >= 20080722)) "release 26.5" Believe me, I'm not impressed by the version string either, but hey. Like I said: for KDE4 I use the factory repo which could be asking for trouble, granted.

Will do.

I'd assume they are. KDE4 update mode here is I look at schemata and select "Update all that are available". But ...

... this could have interfered. How would I check? Wouldn't "going through my KDE packages" be a pretty nightmarish experience? Anders, thanks for your tips so far, Wolfgang -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Short follow-up on this: wstephenson on #opensuse-kde suggested to install kdepim4-debuginfo and kdepimlibs4-debuginfo to produce a crash log. I did that and on the first run kmail crashed again on paste to message body -- No kde crash dialog though (Someone knows why not?) Tried again (and again and again) and kmail does *not* crash anymore on paste. So I'm somewhat relieved. But, I guess it's not exactly a good sign. Sorry, no crash log. The crash happened both with middle-button paste and context menu paste.
