[opensuse] Update repo problem?
Hello folks, On a fresh install of openSUSE 12.3 x86_64 from the DVD I am unable to run "Online Update". It reaches 100% of "Check for available update" and then just hangs. "Software management" also hangs with a blank window. Last week I could successfully run "Online Update" on a fresh install on the same machine; this week I can't. zypper also hangs indefinitely like so: # zypper up Loading repository data... Reading installed packages... This happen whether I use the oss update repo URL download.opensuse.org or a direct oss update repo like ftp5.gwdg.de. If I disable the repo, the hanging problem is fixed, but of course I can't get updates. Is there a problem with the update repo, or is there a quirk with 12.3 that I need to address? Thanks! -- Mike -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Try:
rpm -Va
rpm -Va completes, but complains: missing /var/cache/libx11/compose/l4_030_313cb605_00280cc0 "Online Update", "Software management" and zypper all hang as before. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Irrelevant. I was guessing about an rpm database corruption, but it is not the case.
"Online Update", "Software management" and zypper all hang as before.
What repos do you have active? The default, or something else? You can check with "zypper lr --details". -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 12.3 x86_64 "Dartmouth" at Telcontar)

I think zypper hangs because it searches the install disc first then the repos -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I had that problem on a 12.3 VM (this problem install isn't a VM) and so had tried disabling the install disc. It still hangs as before. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I did a fresh install of 12.3 four times (three DVD, one network) holding my jaw a different way each time. The subsequent update failed the same way each time. I finally gave up and installed 13.1 RC2 and the install and updates happened as expected - smoothly and without incident. -- Mike -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

/var/log/zypper.log is the logfile of zypper and should have shown the stage where it hangs. Ciao, Marcus -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
