Hello, all. I recall someone on the list mentioning how to use HP's JetDirect card, but can't recall details. Any help would be greatly appreciated! -- Jon Snidal jonno@printsters.com - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e
Configure the JetDirect interface's IP address (at the printer this is done through the MIO menu). Check the HP manuals on how to do this if necessary (but it's easy enough just paging through the printer configuration menus). Evoke YaST, choose System administration, Network configuration, Administrate [sic] remote printers. Give the printer a name (any name will do). YaST will name the spool directory based upon your printer name. In the Server name field enter the IP address you gave the JD card. I think, in this case, you can enter anything in the Name of printer on server field, but I use the same name as in Name of printer. Press F4 to create. Back out of YaST. When using lpr (or an application that uses lpr or asks for lpr-type arguments) use: lpr -Pprintername It surprised me by working first time. phil -- "The engineers saw that thick green run-off as sludge and were throwing out out; I saw it as filling and made "key lime-style" pies." jonno@printsters.com wrote:

the jet-direct card uses two "ports" raw and text. "raw" does nothing to the printjob, "text" does something to CR and LF characters (see manual). I entered "raw" as remote printer and the IP (or the corresponding name from hosts file) as remote machine. I think, there is a unix example in the manual. Can't look before monday. ;-(
