[opensuse] virtual machine for running windows98 as guest
Hello: I am searching for a virtual machine for openSUSE (10.3) that can run windows 98 guest with a decent speed. I have tried virtualbox: could not even configure windows 98. I also tried qemu (latest opensuse package from build repo and my own build); I could configure and run windows 98 but it is very slow. With kqmeu it gives 'windows protection error'. Is there some other program that can run windows 98? Or some tweaks to the above ones? Any suggestion is welcomed. Thanks, Istvan -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

This could give better performance when accessing peripherals.

It should work well with vmware. I run Windows Me with the server version. It runs well but a bit slow, but then my machine is limited. - -- Cheers, Carlos E. I'm curious... what went wrong with VirtualBox? Are you using the full version or the OSE edition from the repositories? I use VirtualBox (full version downlaoded from the vbox website) for a LOT of things. I run several Linux installs, Win7, WinXP etc. and all run fine... if I full screen it, it's hard to tell that I'm in a VM and not on the hardware. One exception... I have an issue with some USB devices, but I think that is a problem of my own making (ie I tinker too much). VirtualBox should be able to handle at least back to Windows 3.1.... so... what exactly went wrong with your setup where you could not even configure Windows 98.. what does that mean? Overall, I find VBox to be the simplest and least painful way yet for running multiple OSes on a host OS. That VB does not officially support W98, nor 3.1, nor MsDOS. Support starts with NT. http://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Guest_OSes VMware does support those antiques with additions. - -- Cheers, Carlos E. There's a commercial app called "Win4Lin" you may want to consider. I used to use it for running W98. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Thank you all for your responses. As I know VB does not support win9x. I only made a try. I will look after the other programs you mentioned. Thanks, Istvan -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
