Both xine and mplayer will do it. Get either or both from http://packman.links2linux.org, and perhaps a nice frontend like Kaffeine Don't forget to get all the packages listed as "required", especially the w32codecs package. That's the one that lets them play wmv files/streams

Sorry to hijack the thread, but how do I go about configuring Mozilla/Mplayer so that I can play .wmv files/streams in Mozilla via Mplayer? I have the MIMEtypes assigned in KDE and they work on the desktop, but how can I get them to work in the browser? Tried Plugger - that didn't do it. -- JAY VOLLMER JVOLLMER@CONSOLIDATEDLINT.COM TEXT REFS DOUBLEPLUSUNGOOD SELFTHINK VERGING CRIMETHINK IGNORE FULLWISE
i just installed vmware and winex using the yast rpm installer, but I don't see the programs under the program list, where do I update the list? Or where can I find the file to launch the program?

Try mplayerplug-in, available from packman

Let me try this, I've got Xine, Kaffeine and w32codecs installed. Can't play wmv files. Do I have to do anything to Kaffeine to get the codecs plugged in....other than to run it? Tom -- Tom Nielsen Neuro Logic Systems 805.389.5435 x18 www.neuro-logic.com

If you followed the directions and installed all of the suggested software, you will be able to play wmv files, BUT.... Even in windoz, unless you use m$explorer, some wmv files will not play and some will not play as a stream (you can download and play from disk). I have a friend who tries not to use explorer, uses mozilla, and experiences this. -- Patrick Shanahan Registered Linux User #207535 http://wahoo.no-ip.org @ http://counter.li.org

OK, so I went to packman and downloaded everything. I'm missing liblzo.so. I can't seem to find what that file is to. Any thoughts? Tom

lzo.rpm If you install using red carpet it will take care of the dependencies for you

Check your SuSE cd's or dvd for lzo, Tom or use red carpet as Anders suggests. :o) Lee -- --- KMail v1.6 --- SuSE Linux Pro v9.0 --- Registered Linux User #225206 On any other day, that might seem strange...

HTH,
Martin
Thanks, I followed your advice and installed mplayer from mplayerhq.hu. Stuck a dvd in my dvd burner, gave it a command line instruction and ...it played! So the hard work is done! But when i tried to install with gui enabled, configure halts with the error no GTK found. I have installed gtk-devel, gtk2-devel, gtkmm-devel and a couple of other related apps, apparently i missed something. Can someone please give me a pointer on just what mplayer needs from gtk in order to install a gui? The configure log file just stops at "checking for gtk..." tia Dimitris
