Hi, I recently installed Suse 8.2 on a friend's PC. All went well except - surprise, surprise - the Winmodem didn't work. "No big deal" I thought, as I had a spare USB modem since I moved over to ADSL a year ago. So plugged that in, and Suse detected it immediately. I configured it through Yast and then dialled up. The modem dialled up and connected, but then hung up within a few seconds. I did this a few times and then checked the error log. This is what I got: Aug 10 17:21:52 linux pppd[2814]: Plugin passwordfd.so loaded. Aug 10 17:21:52 linux pppd[2814]: pppd 2.4.1 started by root, uid 0 Aug 10 17:22:41 linux pppd[2814]: Serial connection established. Aug 10 17:22:46 linux pppd[2814]: Using interface ppp0 Aug 10 17:22:46 linux pppd[2814]: Connect: ppp0 <--> /dev/modem Aug 10 17:22:47 linux pppd[2814]: Serial line is looped back. Aug 10 17:22:47 linux pppd[2814]: Connection terminated. Aug 10 17:22:48 linux pppd[2814]: Exit. The "Serial line is looped back" bit looks pretty suss to me. I tried using the device /dev/ttyACM0 and got the same result. /dev/modem is a symlink to /dev/ttyACM0 anyway, so in theory this should work. Any ideas what might be wrong here?
