[opensuse] Kmix & Konq problems after upgrade

I was having some trouble launching applications to look at email attachments. It was recomended that I update my Kmail which involved updating Kde (Version 4.2.1 (KDE 4.2.1) "release 103"). I can now launch OOimpress from Kmail but Kmix will not open to adjust volume and when I try to launch Konq it gets a Fatal Error and (SIGSEGV). Did I miss something with the update / upgrade ?? IIRC, KDE 4.2.1 isn't supported yet. It's part of Factory, not openSUSE 11.1 (or older). As such, it might cause issues, though I've never heard of this one. -- Boyd Stephen Smith Jr. ,= ,-_-. =. bss@iguanasuicide.net ((_/)o o(\_)) ICQ: 514984 YM/AIM: DaTwinkDaddy `-'(. .)`-' http://iguanasuicide.net/ \_/

I do not remember adding any repository's other than the standard 11.0 and Packman. I checked and somehow something added the factory one, AARRGGHHH!! I guess I suffer or reload.. So where did you get KDE 4.2.1 from, if not by adding the repo needed? It is neither part of the standard oss for 11.0 nor the packman. Sven -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Sven I have no idea how it got there. When I did the original install I added the OSS, Nvidia, Packman, and Videolan repo's the same as I did my 10.3 install. If I want to experiment I do it on another partition or another machine but

Either I misunderstood you or "[...] having some trouble launching applications to look at email attachments. It was recomended that I update my Kmail which involved updating Kde (Version 4.2.1 (KDE 4.2.1) "release 103")." tells me that you updated kmail to version 4.2.1 and hence you added the repo yourself. I wanted to update Kmail, I figured it would update Kde also to the latest Kde 4.1 not 4.2 . I did not add the 4.2 repository, nor did I intend on adding it or moving to 4.2. I am not sure what happened but I will start again from scratch with 11.0. You are not the only one to have had problems with getting stuff you dont want .. i wanted KDE 4.2 and wound up with 4.3 alpha stuff that caused total mayhem on the machine wound up having to do a complete install from the ground up because no amount of package uninstalls solved the problems , There is definately somethink a bit cranked in the repo's at times and it aint not fun Pete . -- Opensuse 10.3 x86_64 (Linux is like a wigwam no Gates, no Windows, and an Apache inside.) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Thanks Pete, I guess I am not the only one, I guess it somehow added a repository based on what it found and not what I asked for. I am in the process of doing another complete install in another partition and hopefully get back to where I was. If you did not add any repo, you cannot install KDE 4.2 and hence your kmail and everything else is still KDE 4.1. YaST does not add repos by magic. zypper lr -u will tell you what repos you have (added). rpm -qa | grep kmail will show you the version you have installed.
