Hi everyone, 1. What I am trying is to program in Java and manage to write my first 'Hello world' program. 2. With the help of two guys (Randall and Chuck) in the 'KDE' mailing list I managed to install 'Java' on my PC with YAST. As far as I can tell this went successfully. I have ended up with a collection of 10 'Java...' files and folders installed on my machine under '///home/user/point something' files and folders. (list attached). 3. My question is how do I go from here to program, save a program and execute it. When I get about it with 'Alt F2' and call on 'Java' I obtain a '/bin/sh' screen with a set of instruction inviting me to execute a class or Java options or to execute a jar file. Well... I am sitting in front of this screen not knowing how to run a Hello world or import 'java.applet' and 'java.awt'. Tks for help. Trust I am in the right mailing list to raise this question. Newbie. I think Glenn is right to suggest you work your way through the Java Tutorial from Sun. It seems that you're missing some basic background material about the language and the process of programming in it. Beyond Sun's tutorial and reference materials, there's a mouintain of Java information on the Internet, much of it suitable for beginners, so I'd just start with the Tutorial and then give you "Hello World" program a shot. From there you should be on your way to more interesting programming projects. Lastly, in the future the SuSE-Programming-E list is the most appropriate list to ask questions about programming under SuSE Linux. Good luck.
