Hi all, This is probably off topic, but a number of contributers to this forum have often quoted Miguel in their signatures. I email Ximian to check out the quote and received this reply from Miguel de Icaza. I'm forwarding it FYI. Aaaaahhhhhhh! So that's the explanation! Yesterday I received a snotty email from Miguel regarding my sig. I had no idea how he would have come to see it, seeing as I don't have much to do with GNOME or Ximian. The only clue was that he cc'ed this list on his email, although the post didn't appear here - I presume he's not subscribed. My reply did go to this list. Seeing as I cut and pasted the text of my sig from his original email, I can't see how he can claim I edited what he said, or that I mis-quoted him. I suspect he just said something he didn't mean, and is now getting entangled in a messy damage limitation exercise (on Slashdot of all places!). -- "...our desktop is falling behind stability-wise and feature wise to KDE ...when I went to Mexico in December to the facility where we launched gnome, they had all switched to KDE3." - Miguel de Icaza, March 2003

As I said in my reply email to him, that's exactly what I *didn't* do. Quotes are fair if they represent what was said, in the context it was said, and don't change the meaning of what was said. Just picking out individual words and phrases someone has said and joining them together to make them look like something totally different isn't a quote. Had I done that, I'd fully deserve his wrath. I didn't and never would. -- "...our desktop is falling behind stability-wise and feature wise to KDE ...when I went to Mexico in December to the facility where we launched gnome, they had all switched to KDE3." - Miguel de Icaza, March 2003
