Hi James,
Thanks ... will that give me a decent logon prompt too? Assuming you mean a graphical jobbie, yes (and if you wanted this, you shouldn't have installed the minimal system, you should have gone for the default...), well, kins of anyway...
Ah ... didn't have much choice I'm afraid :-( I have an nVidia GeForce 2 MX 400 video card that, using the conventional install, simply locks up so I was trying to work out a way of building it without using a temporary alternative graphics card :-)
Having installed KDE, you'll need to edit /etc/sysconfig/ displaymanager and set DISPLAYMANAGER to "kdm" Then run SuSEconfig followed by rcxdm restart
OK but part way through I get lots of message saying something like: ERROR: IS-8859-2->UTF-8 encoding conversation is not supported by iconv There are variations on this but they all look similar to that!
Still with me? :)
Above aside, yes!
That'll give you a KDM login screen, you'll then also get it at boot each time.
Yes excellent (thank you) although for some reason my mouse has stopped working ... now I wonder what all that's about? Maybe that's what all that stuff above was about? Hmmm ... hmm .... hmmm ... Running yast2 (text version) and reselecting the mouse solved it! Excellent! Thanks :-) James James C.
